Skin Rejuvienation FAQs

The effects of age and sun of the skin

As the skin ages and the sun wreaks its havoc, the subdermal collagen and elastin support network breaks down. Lines and wrinkles appear, age spots surface and the facial structure soon loses its fight against gravity. Creams and serums can only do so much to fix the breakdown of the skin’s matrix, pigmentation problems and other effects of the sun. Laser therapy, on the other hand, employs a precise wavelength of light energy to go where topical treatments can’t travel. In fact, studies demonstrate that laser therapy helps create a rejuvenated appearance, smoother texture, even skin tone and decreased pore size.

Revlite: Maximum results with minimal downtime

In the past, physicians only used ablative lasers to wound the top layers of the skin. While these aggressive lasers are still used to treat deep wrinkles and advanced photodamage, they can mean significant downtime for the patient. RevLite is a non-ablative laser that uses PhotoAcoustic Technology Pulse (PTP) ener gy for quick full-face t reatment options with no downtime and minimal discomfort. As new collagen synthesizes, lines and wrinkles diminish while the facial structure appears and feels firmer and smoother.

What to Expect

The RevLite laser is extremely safe when administered by an experienced practitioner. The selective energy targets only collagen fibers or pigment. The addition of the Photo- Acoustic Technology Pulse (PTP) feature on the RevLite laser allows practitioners to treat large spot sizes on all skin types, even dark and tanned skin, with the highest degree of safety, effectiveness and comfort. This advanced PTP setting penetrates the skin to stimulate collagen, and diminish wrinkles and acne scars. As the laser is administered, patients describe feeling a tingling sensation. A topical anesthetic is usually not necessary. Because non-ablative laser rejuvenation is a gradual process, four to six treatments spaced three to Five weeks apart are typically indicated.

Commonly asked questions for RevLite Skin Rejuvenation

1. How does the treatment work?

The RevLite features an advanced PTP setting (PhotoAcoustic Technology Pulse) that gently penetrates the skin to stimulate new collagen. The result is a smoother texture and a reduction in wrinkles and acne scars.

2. How long does the treatment take?

Non-ablative laser treatments using PhotoAcoustic energy are quick. A full face treatment takes about 20 minutes.

3. What does the treatment feel like?

Many people describe the feeling of non-ablative laser therapy as a tingling sensation. Anesthesia is usually not necessary, but you may request a topical cream if you wish.

4. Is the procedure safe?

When used by experienced practitioners, lasers are extremely safe. The energy is very selective and targets only the collagen fibers or pigment. Advanced lasers that use PhotoAcoustic energy can treat all skin colors safely—including darker and tanned skin.

5. What can I expect after the treatment?

Laser skin rejuvenation may cause a mild to moderate redness, which usually fades within an hour after treatment. No specific post-care is needed, although you will be asked to avoid sun and certain skin products for a period of time. It is important to follow your physician’s instructions and ask if you have any questions.

6. How many laser treatments will I need?

Although you will notice results after your first treatment, non-ablative laser skin rejuvenation is a gradual process. You typically need four to six treatments spaced three to five weeks apart. Many patients choose to return for regular treatments to maintain their great results. Just as they schedule hair color and nail appointments, many women schedule laser treatments every one to three months as part of their ongoing skincare routine.

Pigment Removal FAQs

  • Freckles, sun spots, unwanted pigment

Brown spots on the skin may often be perceived as a sign of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles. Freckles may have been cute when you were a kid, but now these melanin deposits are looking more like

the aging remains from too many days lounging in the sun. Freckles, sun spots, liver

spots—whatever you call them, they’re technically known as “pigmented lesions”and they form when melanin concentrates in one area of the skin, usually as a result of overexposure to the sun’s UV rays.

The RevLite Breakthrough Advanced laser technology with Q-Switched Nd:YAG wavelengths offers a proven method to permanently remove most brown spots, freckles and unwanted pigment. The light vibrates and shatters the pigment and breaks the melanin into micro-particles, lightening and removing

the dark, aging spot. Most pigmented lesions disappear after 1 to 2 treatments; deeper lesions may require more treatments.

  • What to expect

The RevLite emits light in rapid, short pulses at high peak energy for maximum efficacy and comfort. The impact feels like no more than the snap of a thin rubber band. As the light shatters the pigment and diffuses the lesion, the spot will turn gray or white for a few minutes as the skin absorbs the energy. Any post-treatment discomfort will feel similar to a mild sunburn, and any redness will dissipate within a day or two as the skin returns to its natural color.

  • Commonly asked questions about RevLIte Pigment Removal

    1. What causes these unwanted spots?

Melanin is what gives our skin its color. The amount of melanin in your skin determines if you have a light or dark complexion. Pigmented lesions are dark in color because the melanin is concentrated in one area of the skin, usually as a result of overexposure to the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays.

    2. How does a laser remove unwanted pigment in the skin?

Q-Switched Nd:YAG lasers produce a special wavelength of light that is absorbed by pigmented lesions. The light vibrates and shatters the pigment, breaking the melanin into micro-particles and lightening the lesion. You’ll notice the spot turning gray or white for a few minutes, a natural response of the skin as it absorbs the energy. The spot will then turn darker and slough off completely within one to two weeks.

    3. What types of pigmented lesions can a laser remove?

Lasers work well to remove brown age spots, freckles and other brown birthmarks, such as cafe-au-lait spots and Nevus of Ota. Your physician will identify your specific type of lesion and discuss the treatment for your condition.

    4. Do lasers remove my normal skin pigmentation also?

No. The laser light is specifically designed to target the dark concentrations of melanin. After the concentrated deposit of melanin is removed, some whitening could occur. However, your body’s natural regenerative system will replace the normal melanin over a period of time, returning the skin to its natural color.

    5. How many treatment sessions will it take to remove the pigmented lesion?

Most pigmented lesions are removed within one to two treatments. Some deeper lesions will require more treatments.

    6. Is the process painful?

The PhotoAcoustic energy of a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser emits light in very fast, short pulses. The impact of the energy from the pulse of light is similar to the snap of a very thin rubber band. No anesthesia is needed. After treatment, the area will feel similar to a mild sunburn. Any redness will disappear within a day or so and the skin will return to its natural color.

    7. Can the excess pigmentation come back?

Common pigmented lesions do not return. Some birthmarks may return after a period of several months to a year. However, the procedure can be repeated.

    8. What type of post-treatment care is necessary?

Usually, an antibacterial ointment and a dressing will be applied to the area immediately after treatment. The area should be kept clean with continued application of any ointment given to you by your physician.
