PRP (platelet-rich plasma) hair restoration
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) hair restoration is a hair loss treatment protocol offered at Atalla Plastic Surgery to both men and women suffering from hair thinning and loss. This therapy uses you own platelet rich plasma to stimulate hair growth. A person’s blood contains an extremely rich body of growth factors that is found in the plasma. These growth factors are responsible for healing tissue, and have been found to be instrumental in initiating hair growth. PRP therapy is a completely natural, non-surgical, in office procedure that can be carried out during a lunch break, and allows the patient to immediately return to normal activities.
What types of conditions respond to PRP?
PRP can be used in both men and women for a variety of conditions including Male pattern hair loss, female pattern loss and thinning, reduced hair in the brows, mustache or beard, alopecia areata, and hair loss caused by metabolic conditions.
How is the treatment performed?
PRP therapy for hair restoration is an in-office procedure, and takes about an hour to complete. A small amount of blood is withdrawn from the patient, then spun down in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the other blood components, thus creating a platelet-rich plasma. The PRP is delivered to the scalp via injections through a very fine guage needle. Discomfort is minimal, and is easily managed with analgesic medication. The patient is cleared to shampoo the hair 24 hours after treatment.
When will I see results?
Typically, one will start to notice results within two months of treatments, however, improvement becomes increasingly evident after four to eight months, and up to a year.
