What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure that reduces the wrinkle lines that develop horizontally across the forehead, as well as those that occur on the bridge of the nose, between the eyes. It can improve frown lines, raise a sagging brow, and make you look more alert and youthful.
Brow Lift Benefits
Some of the benefits you can look forward to with a brow lift include the following:
- Improved and rejuvenated appearance
- Younger-looking brow and forehead area
- Improved eyebrow position
- Better facial symmetry
- Boosted confidence
- Can be easily combined with other procedures
Good Candidates for Brow Lift
Ideal candidates for a brow lift are patients in good overall health, nonsmokers, and those with realistic expectations. You should also be showing signs of aging and seeking facial harmony. We also recommend that you not be pregnant or breastfeeding and not have any medical conditions that could negatively affect the healing process.
Types of Brow Lift
There are a few different types of brow lifts, including an open brow lift or an endoscopic brow lift.
Open Brow Lift
An open brow lift, also known as a coronal brow lift, involves making a long incision along the top of the forehead and hairline, from ear to ear. The underlying tissues and muscles are then repositioned, lifted, and removed to provide a smoother, more youthful forehead and a more lifted brow. Once everything is repositioned, the incisions are closed.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
An endoscopic brow lift is a less invasive procedure that involves making small incisions near the hairline. From there, an endoscope is inserted into the incisions, allowing Dr. Atalla to see the underlying tissues and muscles. By releasing and repositioning the tissue, Dr. Atalla can give you a more youthful look.
Preparing for Brow Lift
To prepare for your brow lift, you’ll want to stop smoking if you’re a smoker, stop taking blood thinners, avoid alcohol, and arrange for a friend or family member to drive you to and from your surgery. We also recommend preparing a recovery area in your home that will be ready for you after surgery. You’ll also want to pick up any prescriptions you’ll need and prep some easy-to-make meals.
Brow Lift Procedure
No matter what kind of brow lift you have done, the procedure will begin with the administration of general anesthesia to ensure you’re completely comfortable. From there, Dr. Atalla will make the necessary incisions and adjustments to the tissues and muscles. Once everything is in place, he’ll close the incisions, and you’ll be ready to start the recovery process.
Brow Lift Recovery
When starting your recovery, you’ll want to rest as much as possible. You’ll have bruising, swelling, and discomfort, but we’ll prescribe pain medication to ensure you’re completely comfortable. You’ll also want to keep your head elevated to help ease the swelling. During this time, you’ll also want to avoid alcohol and strenuous activities. You will need to take 1-2 weeks off work, although it can depend on how physically demanding your job is. Swelling and bruising will take several weeks to subside, but residual swelling can take months to fully dissipate.
Results of Brow Lift
You should be able to see the results of your brow lift 3-6 months after your procedure. At that point, all swelling and bruising will be gone, and you’ll be able to see your full improvements.
Brow Lift Combination Procedures
There are a number of procedures that can be combined with a brow lift, including a facelift, eyelid lift, and injectables.
Facelift
A facelift is an easy procedure to add to a brow lift. While a facelift addresses the mid-face, smoothing out wrinkles and eliminating excess skin, a brow lift addresses the top of the face to smooth out lines and wrinkles and lift the brow.
Eyelid Lift
An eyelid lift can address sagging upper eyelids, puffy undereye bags, and crow’s feet. By adding an eyelid lift to a brow lift, you can completely rejuvenate the appearance of your eyes with results that last for years.
Injectables
A brow lift can also be combined with injectables for a full, youthful rejuvenation. With Botox and dermal fillers, you can address specific lines and wrinkles while smoothing and lifting your brow and forehead area.
